How La Fontaine Started

Aimable Mugisha and his wife, Belyse, became orphans at an early age. Both Aimable and Belyse were in critical condition. It was a painful childhood: no parents, no siblings, no aunts or uncles, no relatives. There were many questions without answers. The only way forward was education. The government and a charity organization supported Aimable and Belyse in their studies from nursery school through high school. With his commitment and courage, Aimable received a scholarship to continue his university studies in engineering and leadership. After completing his studies in mechanical engineering and leadership courses, especially in community development and football coaching, Aimable and Belyse decided to contribute to the well-being of children, youth, and the community. To express their gratitude and give back,in 2020 they started a nonprofit organization called La Fontaine Community Learning Center. The organization serves the community through three pillars: Sports, Education, and Culture.

La Fontaine Community Learning Center: is a community-based organization committed to the holistic development of children and youth through education, sports, and cultural programs. Guided by the vision of raising a transformed generation, we equip and support young people to become responsible leaders who empower the next generation and contribute to building a better world.

Bridging The Gaps

We realized that just playing was not enough, so we decided to give more as many young people were missing out on other opportunities for personal growth. So we decided to create a mobile library where we would provide books for the players to read at the field to help them grow mentally and intellectually, and after reading, players take time to share with their teammates what they captured. The program can enhance reading skills, leading to better comprehension and communication and also encouraging a culture of reading fosters lifelong learning and curiosity. All we do is to support community development by leveraging the infrastructure, people, and skills that are already available and enabling potential talents in each person. We mobilized members of the community to come together and share perspectives on what is the best for their children and the individuals’ responsibilities to take for achieving a desired goal. By fostering these connections, we create a supportive and inclusive environment that benefits everyone involved Involving the community in the early childhood education program allowed for the efficient execution of all planned activities, which enhanced the learning experiences of the children and strengthened the ties between families, educators, and community members as everyone felt appreciated, taken into account, and involved in the program's success.
